How carrots keep your dog healthy

We all know why carrots are healthy for us humans; but why do our dogs need to eat them? We’re turning the ingredient spotlight on carrots this week, which are an essential ingredient in the food we feed our dogs (and many of yours!). Our veterinary nutritionist Dr. Justin Shmalberg walks us through exactly why he recommends carrots for dogs.

Here are just a few reasons carrots are a healthy choice for dogs:

  • Carrots are full of beta-carotene and Vitamin A. Beta-carotene acts as antioxidant and a precursor to Vitamin A. Vitamin A not only supports eye health, but also assists in supporting the immune system, and the skin and coat

  • Carrots are a great source of soluble fiber. Our orange pals help keep your canine kid regular.

  • In a win for hygiene, carrots help clean your dogs teeth! The crunchy consistency of carrots make them a great natural teeth cleaner for your dog, without having to resort to special chew toys.

Yet another healthy addition to any dog’s diet. We think we’ll keep feeding carrot-filled meals over here…

Think your dog could benefit from one or two of these vitamins? Our Heartland Beef Mash and Tasty Turkey Fare home-cooked meals for dogs both include this doggy superfood.
