A common question we often hear is, ‘can dogs eat eggs?’ Board certified veterinary nutritionist Dr. Justin Shmalberg answers that, yes, they absolutely can, and in fact, dogs should eat eggs. Here at NomNomNow, we include eggs in two of our fresh recipes, and we want to share why.
So… why exactly (or eggs-actly, should we say) do our Tasty Turkey Fare and Heartland Beef Mash recipes contain eggs? It’s not only because they add a delicious new flavor to our dog’s home-cooked meals.
Eggs are an excellent source of protein. Which dogs literally can’t live without. Protein plays a role in just about everything from making enzymes, hormones, and other chemicals found in their bodies, to repairing tissues and acting as a building block for bones, muscles, skin, and blood.
Eggs provide your dog with added calcium. Calcium not only builds bones and keeps them healthy, but also helps blood to clot and muscles to contract.
Eggs aide the immune system. Eggs contain zinc which helps your dog’s immune system fight off bacteria and viruses.
Eggs help oxygenate muscles. Iron found in eggs is tasked primarily with the storage and transport of oxygen in your dog’s body.
Don’t forget the phosphorus… Phosphorus is found primarily as a building block for strong bones and teeth. All the better to chew their NomNomNow!
Sound like something you want in your dog’s diet? We certainly think so.
