6 Easy Tricks to Teach Your Dog

1. Shake

Teaching your dog to offer a paw to shake is an easy and fun trick. This simple command will help you build communication and confidence with your dog, and help you start learning how to teach dog tricks, paving the way for you to introduce more complicated commands.

2. Roll over

Roll over a fun way to show off your pooch’s skills, but it’s also a practical trick. The roll over command will help your dog become comfortable with being handled, and can come in handy during grooming or veterinary care.

3. Fetch

Teaching your dog to retrieve a ball or toy and bring it back to you will create a fun way for you and your pup to interact and play. A good game of fetch is also great exercise for your pooch and will help you burn off extra energy (puppy parents, we’re looking at you!).

4. Bark

You might be wondering why you’d ever want to teach your dog a behavior that’s considered a nuisance. But putting a nuisance behavior, like barking, on cue, can actually reduce the frequency of the behavior. If you couple the bark trick with the “quiet” command, your pup will learn to only be vocal when commanded.

5. Know toys by name

Teaching your dog to differentiate between toys is always an impressive crowd-pleaser. Plus, it can come in handy. After you teach your dog to recognize the names of their toys, you can even teach them to grab their NomNomNow out of the fridge (though they shouldn’t have trouble sniffing it out as it is).

6. Wait for it

We hear it all the time- Our dogs get so excited for mealtime, they’re eating before the bowl has hit the floor! While we love knowing that our dogs are enjoying their NomNomNow, having some control over mealtime can have many benefits. You never know when your dog will have the chance to eat something they shouldn’t, and a command like this could certainly come in handy at the right moment.

Once you learn how to teach dog tricks and you and your pooch master some basic commands, you’ll start noticing a positive difference in your pup’s demeanor and behavior. You will both reap the benefits with more confidence, and a stronger bond!

At NomNomNow, we believe all dogs should live healthier, happier, and longer lives. Learn how we make that possible

Needless to say, things can get a bit hectic at our house, but I wouldn’t have it any other way! Besides taking care of my crew, I love cooking, running, arranging flowers and traveling.
