Adoption Thursday: Dachshund Rescue of Los Angeles

This week, we’re featuring available dogs from a wonderful rescue in Southern California: the Dachshund Rescue of Los Angeles!

Dachshund Rescue of Los Angeles works hard to reduce the number of dachshunds being euthanized in local shelters, and provides well educated and committed homes for homeless dogs. The organization is entirely run by volunteers passionate about animal welfare, and does amazing work we’re proud to share!

At NomNomNow, we’re honored to work with partners like Dachshund Rescue of Los Angeles. We believe all dogs deserve to live healthier, happier, and longer lives, and by finding more dogs their forever homes, we hope we can do just that!

Here are some adorable adoptables currently looking for somebody to go home with. Let’s make today the best day of their lives!

Doxies for Adoption

1. Hunter

Dachshund (short coat)
Small Senior Male (neutered)

Hunter Dachshund Rescue of Los Angeles l NomNomNow Blog

“HUNTER ~ BE STILL MY HEART….. love, love, love the seniors!

Introducing this extra cute senior Hunter.  Just a mere 12-14 years of age.  This love bug is a 15 pound tweenie.

For Hunter, being a senior brings a new leash on life!  Like we all do, he enjoys his naps (especially if on your lap), but he is excited about taking walks, getting up in the morning, meals (well, who isn’t??), and even going to rehab!  He has full conversations with his foster mom when it is time for dinner (just to remind her, you know), and loves it when she talks sweetly with him.

Hunter is house  broken so free access to a yard is a plus.  He seems to have a bladder of steel but at this age, who wants to test it?  He is great with other dogs, be it a pug or a rottweiler.  He has not been cat tested, but frankly chasing a cat around would be way too much work anyway. What Hunter wants most in his golden years is to spend quality time with someone who loves him and is home as much as possible. If his person is not home, being with a doggie companion would be the next best thing.  Age has only elevated Hunter’s curiosity level.  He is not a ‘door darter,’ but he always wants to know what is behind ‘door number 3’ so he can have some Houdini qualities if you are not paying attention.

Hunter was found with some lameness in his left leg, but after a month of rehab, is doing great and is ready to go to his forever home.  Hunter prefers the finer things in life, like having several dog beds to choose from. But at the end of the day, spending time with you is all he really cares about. He’s happy and smiling in every photo enjoying every moment! Now he just waits for someone to fall in love with him and give him all the love and safety he so deserves!

He’s been vaccinated, neutered and had a dental.  Come meet him in person and expect to fall in love.

Like fine wine, Hunter simply gets better with age!

If you are interested in meeting or adopting him please complete an adoption application and schedule your home safety check so you are pre-approved. You can get more information right here!

2. Duke

Dachshund / Mixed (short coat)
Small Adult Male (neutered)

Duke Dachshund Rescue of Los Angeles l NomNomNow Blog

DUKE ~ A red 4-5 year old and 17 pound tweenie dachshund mix sporting a liver-colored nose.  He was surrendered to the Utah shelter left scared and confused.  Those days are over and he’s now in Los Angeles in search of his person or family.

Duke is a long legged so stairs are no problem for this guy and he loves to jump in the car for a ride.  He is always up for a walk and will be a great companion for an active family. He is pretty good on a leash, but tends to chase after birds and lizards and its hard to break his focus.

He is good with his same size foster siblings and doesn’t seem to pay attention to others dogs when out walking.  He is house trained, no accidents in the house.  He needs someone who is familiar with headstrong breeds and willing to work on his training.

No cats or other small pets.  No big dogs.  Older children only.  Neutered and fully vaccinated.

If you are interested in meeting or adopting him please complete an adoption application and schedule your home safety check so you are pre-approved.

Duke is searching for his happily ever after.  Learn more and plan to meet him here.

3. Chicklet

Dachshund / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat)
Small Adult Female (spayed)

Chicklet Chickadee Dachshund Rescue of Los Angeles l NomNomNow Blog

CHICKADEE ~ AKA Chicklet which her mom calls her. She is a delightful little (just under 9 pounds) sweet lovable chiweenie (doxie/chi) girl.  She’s somewhere around 4 years old. She gets along with all her foster siblings (girls and boys). She loves loves loves her person.  She doesn’t understand personal space yet as she’s constantly busy giving kisses right in the kisser.  She is also foster mom’s little shadow.  She’s a pure joy to have around.  At bedtime she curls up next to foster mom and sleeps through the night.  She always makes sure she is extra close.

She’s been spayed and vaccinated. Come meet her at an upcoming adoption event.

If you are interested in adopting, complete an application and schedule your home safety check so you are pre-approved. You can learn more about her here!

4. Destiny

Dachshund (short coat)
Small Adult Female (spayed)

Destiny Dachshund Rescue of Los Angeles l NomNomNow Blog

DESTINY ~ She’s a gorgeous red (ruby red with black highlights) smooth purebred. She’s a playful 4-5 years old and 16.4 pounds tweenie beauty!
If you are looking for a couch potato dog that will sit on the sofa or porch with you quietly…Destiny is NOT the dog for you.  This little spitfire has sass, attitude and personality oozing out of every pore.  She’ll give kisses for days, follow you lovingly everywhere you go and complain loudly if you leave her behind. She’s not scared of anything and will guard your house devotedly. She’s a bit of an alpha, so I recommend she either be the only dog, or with submissive friends.  She will try to dominate.  As far as I can tell, she is 100% housebroken, not a picky eater, loves her walks and sleeps in her own bed peacefully all night.
She is spayed, vaccinated and ready for her furever home. Come meet her at an upcoming adoption event. Be prepared to fall in love.
She has already wrapped all of us around her little paws. She is still very playful and loves her toys, and can be possessive of them and her people.  We’ve nicknamed her “Diva”because she is gorgeous, fiery, opinionated and deserves to be adored.
If you are interested in meeting or adopting her please complete an adoption application and schedule your home safety check so you are pre-approved. You can learn more right here.

5. Marbo

Dachshund / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat)
Small Adult Male (neutered)
Marbo Dachshund Rescue of Los Angeles l NomNomNow Blog

MARBO ~ A 6 year old black and tan small dachshund chihuahua mix ~ Chiweenie.  He found himself in a scary shelter since his owner no longer had time for him.  His days were numbered so we stepped in and rescued him.

He’s a sweet boy and is looking for love.  Our promise to him is he would be safe and loved from this day forward.

Foster mom Michelle says he loves people and most dog’s. Crate trained, gets a cookie after potty time outside. Typical chi, he does shake more than normal so we’re monitoring.  But all around a happy little guy, would probably due better with a dog friend in the home.  No cats.

Come meet him at an upcoming adoption event and see for yourself.  He is neutered and vaccinated.

If you are interested in meeting or adopting him please complete an adoption application and schedule your home safety check so you are pre-approved. You can get more information here!
